Belfast, ME (PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- Deborah Paradis had just enough hope left for a prayer and a phone call. Homebound due to a debilitating illness and barely able to make ends meet, Ms. Paradis, 62, was ready to give up on life until she saw The SCOOTER Store commercial on television. She then thought that just maybe, things could get better. .

Disabled residents have law on their side

After Robert and Barbara Dublirer bought a Fort Lee co-op apartment in 2002, they requested a special parking spot because Robert Dublirer has multiple sclerosis and walks with forearm crutches.

But they say the management of the building, Mediterranean Towers South, was so unhelpful they were forced to complain to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which ultimately accused the co-op of violating the Fair Housing Act.

Why doesn't the arena have a parking deck?

I'm curious why the city is considering allowing a hotel to place a parking garage over the arena loading dock.As a taxpayer for the arena, I suggest the city build a much needed parking deck for the arena instead. It should be restricted to patron parking on event nights. There are many older taxpayers who would like safe, easy access and undercover parking with plenty of handicapped spaces. Attendance by all taxpayers might increase. When events are scheduled for the Blumenthal, parking in the area, especially for handicapped people, is at a premium.

Security is also a factor. If hotel parking is allowed, this could mean long term parking with cars not being moved often. In this day and age, this should be a consideration.

Islanders add their voices to D.C. anti-war protest

WASHINGTON -- With a mixture of exuberance from last November's Democratic sweep and ire over President Bush's State of the Union address last week, tens of thousands of anti-war protesters from across the country packed the National Mall yesterday to demand an end to the United States military presence in Iraq and a speedy withdrawal of the 132,000 American troops.

From senior citizens -- a few in wheelchairs -- to young children, demonstrators spilled onto the grassy area, waving signs that read "Bush: Send 20,000 Diplomats" and "Separate Oil and State," and chanting "Not one more death! Not one more dollar!"

At least 65 Staten Islanders who have periodically hosted modest rallies in the borough traveled to the capital yesterday to participate in the spirited demonstration, which had an energy that reverberated throughout the city, replete with dancing, drumming and a host of people, including actress Jane Fonda, who had taken part in similar protests during the Vietnam War.
