Army opens $50 million high-tech rehab center for wounded vets

Of the roughly 20,000 soldiers injured since the start of the Iraq war, more than 500 have lost a limb - many of them in roadside bombings.

On Monday, a $50 million high-tech rehabilitation center opened that is designed to serve the growing number of soldiers who return from war as amputees or with severe burns.

The privately funded Center for the Intrepid includes a rock-climbing wall, a wave pool and a virtual reality computer system. About 3,200 people attended a dedication ceremony, including Gen. Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and 2008 presidential hopefuls Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and John McCain of Arizona.

Clinton, a Democrat, said Americans are firmly behind the nation's veterans, despite the rancorous national debate over the Iraq war.

Patients Must Decide What To Do With Excess Frozen Embryos

San Diego, CA (AHN) - Many infertile couples choose in vitro fertilization (IVF), a procedure that extracts eggs from the woman, fertilizes the egg with the sperm of the man, and then implants the egg back into the woman. In the course of this procedure, because of the high failure rate of 60%, more embryos are created than are needed and are frozen for later use. Now in the U. S., more than 400 thousand frozen embryos are stored in fertility clinics and the question has arisen as to what to do with the excess.

Stem cell research with human embryos has long been a hot, debatable topic among politicians, religious groups, and U. S. citizens. But in the case of embryo banks where infertile couples have provided the embryos for IVF, it will be the couple that makes the call, a call that has proven to be very difficult because of religious convictions.

Furore over 'schoolbus racism'

Johannesburg - The MD of Metrobus denied on Wednesday that eight white high-school children had been kicked off a bus in Johannesburg by a racist black driver.

According to a newspaper report, schoolchildren, aged between 14 and 17, said a black bus driver swore at them and kicked them off the bus because they were white.

Metrobus MD Bheki Shongwe said: "We are continuing to investigate, but the preliminary finding is that there is no correlation between what was in the (newspaper) article and what the driver has told us.

"I have spoken to the driver and he said it was an absolute lie. They (the schoolchildren) asked to get out.

"He stopped the bus. Some white kids remained until he dropped them at the school."

Was just helping out

The children still on the bus told the driver after the others were off the bus that it was not their stop.
