After Agoura eruv dismantled, residents ask 'What's up with that?'

Construction of an eruv in the Conejo Valley was nearly complete last month when area residents began complaining to public officials about aesthetics and safety concerns as well as a lack of proper permits. Last week the eruv's organizers ordered all remaining portions along the enclosure's 5-mile perimeter be dismantled.

"We are sorry that mistakes were made and that the eruv was put up in an incorrect way," Eruv Committee spokesman Eli Eisenberg told a hostile crowd of about 60 Conejo residents during the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) meeting on Jan. 23.

The Agoura Eruv, a project conceived by a small group of local Chabad congregants, covered portions of Agoura Hills and Oak Park, as well as a small sliver of Westlake Village. The Oak Park segment of the eruv had been taken down prior to the Jan.

Seriously ill patients escape care home fire

OREGON CITY -- All 79 residents, many of them in wheelchairs or hospital beds, were evacuated from a rehabilitation center Friday after a two-alarm fire that broke out in the ceiling of a residential wing.

At least 20 residents, most of them seniors wrapped in blankets, huddled for more than an hour in the parking lot of Mountain View Rehabilitation & Living Center at 1400 Division St.

About 10 residents, all diabetics, were sheltered and treated at Willamette Falls Hospital, which is next door.

The center houses patients in long-term care who have terminal illnesses or are recovering from major surgeries, strokes or other ailments.

"Some of the patients can't walk and require oxygen, so it's fortunate everyone got out fast, because the life hazard was significant," said Lt.

The SCOOTER Store Helps Restore Hope to Disabled Belfast Woman with the Gift of a Power Scooter

Deborah Paradis had just enough hope left for a prayer and a phone call. Homebound due to a debilitating illness and barely able to make ends meet, Ms. Paradis, 62, was ready to give up on life until she saw The SCOOTER Store commercial on television. She then thought that just maybe, things could get better.

Today, Ms. Paradis's prayers were answered with the donation of a power scooter from The SCOOTER Store as part of its "Gift of Mobility Program," which provides mobility equipment and assistance to those who cannot afford to purchase a power wheelchair or scooter. Kevin McAfee, from The SCOOTER Store's Nashua, N. H. retail store, worked with Dream Foundation to make the gift to Ms. Paradis. The Dream Foundation is the nation's first and largest organization that grants wishes to adults who have been physically, emotionally and financially devastated by serious illnesses.
