FG releases gazette on FCT homes

The federal government has issued a gazette regulating the establishment of day care homes, orphanages and care centres in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The gazette therefore, seeks to reduce incidents of abuse of physically handicapped persons in the FCT.

The gazette also stipulates ways of sanitising the setting up and administration orphanages in the territory.

The FCT Social Development Secretary; Hajia Amina Zakari, disclosed this in Abuja recently.

Zakari said the FCT administration had concluded arrangements to meet with and sensitise all stakeholders in that sub-sector.

She said the gazette contains regulations for the establishment of day care homes, orphanages and care centres as well as centres for the handicapped in the FCT.

“These regulations had become necessary to reduce to the minimal cases of child abuse, especially those who are physically challenged.
