As an electrical engineer at Magnavox for 33 years, Philip Gieseking could count on the consistent and predictable laws of physics. The laws regulating his small business, however, are something else entirely. "I've been here 30 years, and there's as much parking as there ever was. So why is it a problem now?" Gieseking asked. He has recently learned that, where man-made laws are concerned, logical and legal are not necessarily synonymous. An engineer, after all, would never think of requiring a bathroom designed for use by the disabled in a basement accessible only by a staircase too steep and narrow to accommodate wheelchairs. But that's just what Giese- king is doing – and grumbling every step of the way. It all started so innocently.
Addai hasn't forgetten high school teammate
MIAMI LaJuan Moore was smiling Wednesday, and it wasn't just because he was going to the Super Bowl. "He's always like this," his mother said. "Been that way since he was a little baby." The smile wasn't what Colts running back Joseph Addai noticed when the two first met in the ninth grade at their Houston high school. It was the sight of Moore with his hand out. "He said we met because I borrowed 50 cents from him and never paid him back," Moore said, laughing at the recollection. "I admit I borrowed the 50 cents, but I did pay him back." Out of that, a friendship was born. In a way, it was just natural. Both were football players, one on defense and the other on offense at Sharpstown High. Addai was the quarterback, and Moore was the safety stopper.
Zimbabwe: Equip Judiciary to Serve the Handicapped
WHEN society talks about sexual abuse, marginalised groups such as the physically or mentally-disadvantaged, rarely come into the picture. This omission has posed both social and legal problems for people with disabilities, particularly when it comes to effecting justice for them. .
