Global4PL Announces 'Green Supply Chain and Lower Cost Program'

Global4PL today announced a new supply chain program that includes:

"Most companies would implement environment-friendly programs if such initiatives would not affect their bottom lines. This inspired Global4PL to create a program to help companies achieve a green supply chain with cost-efficient transportation management," stated Sergio Retamal, president of Global4PL.

Retamal said: "Carbon offsets are a first step in compensating for our contribution to climate change. Our strategy is to make use of the supply chain as part of the solution to global warming. We are also making a commitment to search for new technologies and implement green programs that make a difference today."

Retamal also said, "Our larger customers who use online bidding are negotiating savings of 10-30% while smaller companies can average 15-25% savings and up to 50% discount off parcel rates."

This represents a substantial boost to a company's profitability.

Spots are for disabled

I hope to gain the attention of some motorists. I am a handicapped father of three, the two oldest of whom are legally handicapped. We have a state Department of Motor Vehicles-issued handicapped placard.

Almost every morning without fail when I drop my kids off at school, I either have to battle for or be denied access to the handicapped parking spots due to others without placards or plates blocking access to or parking in these spots. Shame on them! Our conditions might not be as recognizable or obvious as others since we dont have wheelchairs. However, numerous doctors, the DMV, and the federal government have determined that we are entitled to this small privilege of convenience.

Please do not use these parking spots if you are not entitled. Dont park next to a car in a handicapped spot so closely that we dont have the access to our vehicle.

Legislators look at tougher teen driving law

There's a new proposal at the statehouse aimed at teens and pre-teens who're riding in the back seat. The Iowa Senate's Transportation Committee has unanimously approved a bill that would expand the mandatory seat belt usage law and make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be riding in the backseat without a seat belt.

Under current law, all front-seat occupants are to be buckled in, and those under the age of 10 who are in the back seat are to buckle up, too, or face a fine if a trooper or cop catches them not wearing their seat belt. Senator Tom Hancock, a Democrat from Epworth, says wearing a seat belt in the back seat is just as important as wearing one when you're in the front.

"Lap and shoulder belts in the backseat of a car -- when they are used, they're 44 percent effective in reducing fatalities," Hancock says.

Autism Prevalence In The US Rises To 1 In 150

The Autism Society of America (ASA) welcomed the new CDC studies on the prevalent numbers of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the United States as tremendously significant data that will help the cause of improving the lives of all those affected by autism. In data collected from its Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM), a population-based, multi-state surveillance network that surveyed 8-year-olds in 2000 and 2002, the CDC found that the data confirm that ASD prevalence affects approximately an average of 1 child in every 150. The data represents 10 percent of the U.S. population of 8-year- old children.

ASA believes the CDC numbers are tremendously significant. "Finally, we can end the debate on the prevalence of autism in our nation and focus on getting the services and supports the families need," said Lee Grossman, ASA president and CEO.
